Local football club host collection for Ipswich food bank

Ipswich Town Football Club (ITFC) hosted a successful food collection for local Ipswich charity Families in Need (FIND), before the match against Wigan on Saturday 15th December, raising the profile of the charity and essential food items at this crucial time of year.

The collection was made in the fanzone for two hours before kick-off on Saturday, and despite the freezing conditions fans of ITFC gave generous donations.

Dan Palfrey, Marketing & Public Relations Officer says, “I would personally like to thank supporters for your kind donations to FIND’s foodbank. Despite the adverse weather conditions, it was a successful collection and one I’m sure will make a difference to families in need this winter.”

In the run up to Christmas FIND are working harder than ever to ensure people in crisis who are referred by local agencies and charities have food to eat. FIND will distribute at least 1,000 Christmas hampers for people who need food for the Christmas and New Year week. The need for bigger items, such as cookers and fridges, beds and bedding has also increased.

Maureen Reynel MBE, Founder of FIND, says, “We are hugely grateful for every donation and all the support we have received so far from the Suffolk community, without it there would be no FIND. We care for those that find it difficult to care for themselves at some point in their lives, and we need to continue providing support to individuals and families in desperate need across Ipswich.”
